Interested in unique experiences in Costa Rica? You’ve come to the right place!
While you may want to spend your Costa Rican vacation lounging on the beach and taking in the sites, you might also want to add in a little adventure. From zip lining near Arenal volcano to trekking in Corcovado National Park, here are my picks for the 5 most unique experiences in Costa Rica!
5 Unique Experiences in Costa Rica
1. Hike La Fortuna Waterfall in Arenal
La Fortuna waterfall is a stunning escape and easy to find. You’ll walk several steps down to the beautiful blue waters (but be warned, the trip back up is harder than you think!) where you can take a swim or take a few pictures.
On the way back up, don’t forget to take a walk through the orchid garden to help catch your breath.
2. Zip-lining Near the Arenal Volcano

Nothing says unique experience quite like zip-lining near a volcano! Arenal volcano, to be specific. Not to mention, you’ll get a great view of the lake beneath you as you fly through the forest.
I recommend Sky Arenal for your zip-lining adventure. They’re a reliable, safe service that will even pick you up from your hotel!
3. Visit Manuel Antonio National Park

It wouldn’t be a Costa Rica guide if I didn’t mention the beloved, but quite popular, Manuel Antonio National Park.
This park is the smallest, but most accessible park for those who visit Costa Rica. As a result, it can quickly get crowded, so prepare for an early visit.
After you’ve seen your share of animals, from sloths to monkeys and more, take in the beach. Bring a swimsuit. There are changing rooms if you’d like to get your toes wet.
I go into more detail in my guide, but the tldr is visit Manuel Antonio National Park.
4. Soak in the Arenal Hot Springs

All of the hiking, exploring and zip-lining might wear you out, so make a plan to visit one of the many hot springs in Arenal.
If you’re planning to stay in the Arenal area, many hotels have hot springs on the property. If not, you could also pay a visit to Tabacón Thermal Resort & Spa for your hot spring needs.
5. Visit Corcovado National Park
Corcovado National Park will be your biggest adventure yet. For starters, you can only access the park by plane or boat. The paved walkways you found in Manuel Antonio are replaced with dirt trails and several treks through various streams and rivers.
It’ll be an all-day excursion, but very worth it. It’s less crowded, and animals are more easily viewed. I spotted a baby sloth and it was an incredible experience. I’d return in a heartbeat.
These are just 5 of the many unique experiences in Costa Rica! If you would like a follow up post, let me know in the comments!
