Cody’s Rest, an Airbnb in Leavenworth, KS, was just what I needed this time last year.
I had been planning a trip to Weston and looking for a place to stay that would allow me to safely social distance. Since Weston primarily specializes in hotels and bed & breakfasts, it seemed like staying in town would be out of the question.
I started looking for Airbnbs that would provide the full space and a safe entry. I found that at Cody’s Rest, plus a bit more! Read on for my full review.
A Review of Cody's Rest
About Cody's Rest

Cody’s Rest has been around for quite a bit. From the listing…
“In 1854, Marion Wohlfrom came to Leavenworth and opened a grocery store. The family business was on the first floor with their residence above the store. This is what Cody’s Rest once was, the home of a German family who lived all of their lives in this apartment while operating a grocery store for 93 years.”
The second floor escape consists of exposed brick, vintage furnishings and three bedrooms, plus a parlor and bathroom.
Property details

What I really enjoyed was how the space had been decorated. You really get the sense of a time preserved. In photos, note the wall hangings and books. They contain the history of this building—one of the oldest in Kansas—as well as the surrounding area history.
The period furniture adds to the charm, and seeing as I was visiting Weston, fit the trip’s theme.
That said, modern amenities are still available. The space comes with high speed internet access, a thermostat is equipped with Amazon Alexa, laundry room and a big screen television with Netflix available.
Family history

Those interested in learning more about the family can take a read through the handout kept in the kitchen as you arrive. I won’t spoil the whole story, but it’ll give you a good insight to the home and its history.
The Wohlfrom family lived in this space until 1985—more than 153 years total. Many of the grand pieces you see are originals.
Overall thoughts

I really enjoyed my stay at Cody’s Rest. I loved the furnishings and the touches of modern amenities. I loved the second story deck, perfect for sitting out while sipping a morning coffee. I also thought that the location was nice for a visit to Leavenworth, even though my intended stop was to Weston. For either destination, it’s a good pick.
Overall, I’m glad I found this Airbnb and would highly recommend a stay. Debra, our host, was super responsive and my friend and I felt right at home!
